Questions about this product
Why Choose Kentmere Pan 400 120 Film?
Choose Kentmere Pan 400 in 120 format when you want an affordable and versatile black & white film that can handle a wide range of photographic situations. Its ISO 400 speed gives you greater freedom than slower ISO 100 or 125 films, particularly when shooting handheld, working in overcast weather or photographing moving subjects. The larger 120 negative also helps improve the overall appearance of grain while providing excellent detail for scanning and printing. Kentmere Pan 400 is particularly attractive for photographers who want a classic black & white look without the cost of more premium professional films. Its forgiving exposure characteristics also make it an excellent option for photographers learning medium-format photography or traditional black & white development.
Shooting Tips for Kentmere Pan 400 120 Film
Start at ISO 400. Box speed gives a dependable balance of shadow detail, contrast and grain. Give the shadows enough exposure. Avoid heavy underexposure if you want cleaner shadows and fuller tonal information. Use it in changing light. ISO 400 is particularly useful when moving between sunshine, cloud and shade during the same shoot. Try EI 200 for more generous exposure. Giving the film additional light can improve shadow detail and produce a fuller negative. Push processing is possible. Kentmere Pan 400 can be exposed at higher effective speeds when necessary, but contrast and grain will increase. Tell your lab when pushing. If you shoot the film above ISO 400, let the lab know so development can be adjusted appropriately. Use faster shutter speeds for movement. The ISO 400 speed makes it easier to photograph people, street scenes and moving subjects compared with slower films. Use a tripod when necessary. Even ISO 400 may require slower shutter speeds in dark interiors or at night. Focus carefully. The larger 120 negative records plenty of detail, so accurate focus is especially important for portraits and close subjects. Remember frame count depends on your camera. A 120 roll produces different numbers of photographs depending on whether your camera uses 6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7, 6×9 or another medium-format size. Try yellow, orange or red filters. These can darken blue skies and increase tonal separation in black & white photography. Remember to compensate for the filter factor. Scan at good resolution. Medium-format Kentmere Pan 400 negatives can produce detailed digital files while retaining an attractive traditional grain structure. Kentmere Pan 400 requires conventional black & white development.
