Questions about this product
Why Choose Kodak Eastman Professional Ektar 100?
Choose Kodak Eastman Professional Ektar 100 when your priority is maximum detail, fine grain and strong colour reproduction. Its ISO 100 sensitivity is especially effective in bright daylight or controlled lighting. Compared with faster ISO 400 or 800 films, the slower speed allows an exceptionally smooth grain structure, making it an excellent option when photographs will be scanned at high resolution or printed at larger sizes. Ektar 100 also has a noticeably more vivid colour character than Kodak’s portrait-focused Portra films. If you enjoy colourful landscapes, blue skies, greenery, architecture, vehicles or product photography, Ektar can give these subjects extra impact. It is particularly attractive to photographers looking for the convenience of a colour negative film while still achieving the crisp detail and punchy colour associated with more deliberately composed photography.
Best Use For
Landscape Photography: One of Ektar 100’s strongest applications. Its vivid colour and fine detail work beautifully with countryside, mountains, coastlines and dramatic skies. Travel Photography: Excellent for colourful destinations, markets, buildings, beaches and outdoor sightseeing in good daylight. Architecture: Exceptional sharpness and fine grain help preserve textures, lines and intricate structural details. Automotive Photography: Particularly effective for classic cars and colourful vehicles where paintwork, chrome and fine details are important. Nature & Flowers: Strong colour saturation can make foliage, flowers and naturally colourful subjects stand out. Product Photography: Fine detail and vivid colour reproduction make it suitable for carefully controlled product and commercial photography. City Photography: Colourful buildings, signs, street art and urban landscapes can look especially striking. High-Resolution Scanning & Large Prints: The extremely fine grain makes Ektar 100 an excellent choice when you want detailed scans or larger photographic enlargements.
Shooting Tips for Kodak Eastman Professional Ektar 100
Start at ISO 100. Box speed is the best starting point for accurate colour, fine detail and predictable results. Use it when there is plenty of light. Bright daylight and controlled studio lighting allow Ektar 100 to perform at its best. Meter carefully. Ektar 100 rewards accurate exposure and is generally less forgiving of major exposure errors than films such as Portra. Avoid significant underexposure. Insufficient exposure can result in dense shadows and reduced colour quality. Use a tripod when necessary. ISO 100 may require slower shutter speeds during overcast weather, shade, interiors or around sunset. Take advantage of smaller apertures. In bright daylight you can comfortably use apertures such as f/8 or f/11 for greater depth of field in landscapes and architecture. Use its saturation creatively. Colourful cars, signs, flowers, buildings and natural landscapes are excellent subjects for Ektar’s vivid palette. Take care with portraits. Ektar 100 can certainly photograph people, but its stronger saturation can emphasise reds and warm skin tones. Portra is usually the better choice when natural skin reproduction is the main priority. Scan at high resolution. Ektar’s fine grain and strong sharpness make it worth choosing a medium or high-resolution scan. Process using C-41. Standard colour negative processing is required.
Eastman Ektar 100 or Regular Ektar 100 – Which Should You Choose?
For normal photographic use, there is no reason to expect a meaningfully different photographic style simply because the box carries the Eastman Kodak branding. Both are sold with the same core Ektar 100 specifications and are aimed at the same type of photography. If a customer already likes Kodak Professional Ektar 100, the Eastman Professional version is a natural choice. Both are intended for photographers who want ISO 100 performance, extremely fine grain, vivid colour, exceptional sharpness and excellent scanning potential. In practical terms, availability, packaging and price are likely to be more important deciding factors than image character.
