Nikon Lite Touch Zoom 70Ws AF 35mm Film Camera

Choose the Nikon Lite Touch Zoom 70Ws AF if you want a compact 35mm film camera with a genuinely useful wide-angle lens. The 28mm wide end is one of this camera's biggest attractions. Many compact zoom cameras begin around 35–38mm, whereas 28mm allows considerably more of the scene to fit into the frame. This makes the Nikon especially useful for travel, architecture, narrow streets, interiors and group photographs. Zooming to 70mm provides a more natural option for portraits and tighter compositions without requiring a second lens. The camera handles autofocus, exposure, film advance and rewind automatically, making it particularly convenient for beginners or anyone who wants to enjoy film photography without constantly adjusting manual settings. The built-in flash, infinity focus and slow-sync mode also make it more versatile in changing photographic situations.

The Nikon Lite Touch Zoom 70Ws AF uses standard DX-coded 35mm / 135 film. Its automatic film-speed system is specifically calibrated for: ISO 100 DX film and ISO 400 DX film For general everyday photography, ISO 400 film is the best all-round choice and is particularly useful for reducing the risk of camera shake in weaker light. ISO 100 film is an excellent option for bright sunny conditions where plenty of natural light is available. The camera can use both colour negative and black & white 35mm film. Good choices include Kodak UltraMax 400, Fujifilm 400, Ilford HP5 Plus 400, Kentmere Pan 400 and Kodak TRI-X 400. ISO 100 colour or black & white film can also be used for bright daylight photography. Important: DX-coded ISO 200 film is read by the camera as ISO 100, while DX-coded ISO 800 film is read as ISO 400. Non-DX film is also treated as ISO 100. For the most predictable exposure, use DX-coded ISO 100 or ISO 400 film.

The Nikon 28–70mm f/5.6–10 zoom lens gives the Lite Touch Zoom 70Ws a particularly useful combination of wide-angle coverage and moderate telephoto reach. At 28mm, the camera performs especially well for travel, architecture, landscapes, street scenes and group photographs where space may be limited. At 70mm, the narrower perspective works well for portraits, details and subjects you cannot easily approach. The autofocus system works from approximately 0.8 metres to infinity, with focus lock available when your subject is positioned away from the centre of the frame. Programmed automatic exposure operates across shutter speeds from approximately 2 seconds to 1/300 second. In lower light, the camera can select slower speeds, so steady handling becomes important. The built-in flash automatically fires when additional light is required and offers several useful modes for different situations.

Use ISO 400 film for everyday photography. Nikon specifically recommends ISO 400 because it works well with flash and provides better protection against camera shake. Use DX-coded film. ISO 100 and ISO 400 are the camera's native automatically recognised film speeds. Be aware of ISO 200 behaviour. DX-coded ISO 200 film is automatically treated as ISO 100. Be aware of ISO 800 behaviour. DX-coded ISO 800 film is automatically treated as ISO 400. Use 28mm for groups and architecture. The wide setting is one of the camera's strongest features. Zoom towards 70mm for portraits. This provides tighter framing and reduces the amount of background included. Keep subjects at least around 0.8 metres away. The autofocus system will warn you when your subject is too close. Use focus lock for off-centre subjects. Focus on your subject first, keep the shutter button lightly pressed, then recompose. Use Infinity Focus mode for distant scenes. This is useful for landscapes and when photographing through glass where normal autofocus may struggle. Use the built-in flash indoors. Even ISO 400 film may need additional light in darker rooms. Try Night Portrait mode after dark. Slow synchronisation can capture more ambient background light behind your flash-lit subject. Use a tripod in very low light. Flash Cancel and Night Portrait modes can result in slow shutter speeds. Hold the camera steadily at 70mm. Camera movement becomes more noticeable at the telephoto end. Wait for the flash to recharge. The shutter cannot be released while the flash is charging. Let the camera handle film transport. Film loading, advance and rewind are motorised automatically. Wait until rewind has finished before opening the camera. This prevents accidental exposure of the film. Carry a spare CR123A battery. Zoom, autofocus, flash and film transport all depend on battery power. Close the sliding cover when carrying the camera. This switches the camera off and protects the lens.
