Question 1

Why Choose the Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom?

Accepted Answer

Choose the Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom if you want a compact 35mm camera that offers considerably more framing flexibility than a fixed-lens point-and-shoot.

The 38–105mm zoom lens covers a very practical range. At 38mm, it works well for holidays, groups, street scenes, buildings and landscapes. Zooming towards 105mm gives you much tighter framing for portraits, details and subjects that are farther away.

Its 3-point Ai-AF system can identify subjects even when they are not positioned directly in the centre of the frame, helping make spontaneous photography easier.

Automatic exposure, film loading, advancing and rewinding also mean there are very few technical settings to worry about.

For photographers looking for a classic Canon compact that combines easy point-and-shoot operation with a useful telephoto zoom, the Sure Shot 105 Zoom is a strong choice.

Question 2

Which Film Does the Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom Take?

Accepted Answer

The Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom takes standard 35mm / 135 film.

It automatically reads DX-coded film speeds from ISO 25 to ISO 3200, giving you a very wide range of compatible films.

For everyday photography, ISO 400 film is an excellent all-round choice, providing useful flexibility in sunshine, cloudy conditions and shade.

For bright outdoor shooting, ISO 100 or ISO 200 film can provide finer grain and excellent image quality.

For lower-light conditions, ISO 800 film can provide additional flexibility, particularly when you want to rely less heavily on flash.

The camera can use both colour negative and black & white film.

Popular choices include Kodak Gold 200, Kodak ColorPlus 200, Kodak UltraMax 400, Kodak Portra 400, Fujifilm 400, Ilford HP5 Plus 400, Kentmere Pan 400 and Kodak TRI-X 400.

For the most reliable automatic exposure, use DX-coded 35mm film.

Question 3

Performance

Accepted Answer

The Canon 38–105mm f/3.8–9.9 zoom lens gives the Sure Shot 105 Zoom excellent versatility for a compact film camera.

At the 38mm wide-angle end, it provides a natural field of view for street photography, travel, architecture and groups.

At 105mm, the lens allows significantly tighter compositions, making it particularly useful for portraits and subjects that you cannot easily approach.

The use of two aspherical lens elements helps control optical aberrations and maintain good image quality throughout the zoom range.

The 3-point Ai-AF system focuses from approximately 0.6 metres to infinity, covering most everyday subjects.

In low light or backlit situations, the built-in flash can activate automatically. Slow synchronisation is also available when you want to retain more of the ambient background light.
