Question 1

Why Choose the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom?

Accepted Answer

Choose the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom if you want a classic 35mm compact camera that combines straightforward automatic operation with the flexibility of a zoom lens.

The 38–60mm zoom range is one of its strongest features. At 38mm, the camera works well for travel, street scenes, groups and everyday snapshots. Zooming towards 60mm gives a tighter perspective that is useful for portraits and subjects that are slightly farther away.

Its five-point Ai-AF autofocus system evaluates different areas of the frame, helping the camera focus quickly without requiring manual adjustment.

Exposure is also automatic, making the Sure Shot 60 Zoom particularly suitable for beginners or photographers who want to concentrate on composition rather than aperture and shutter-speed settings.

Automatic film loading, advancing and rewinding further simplify the shooting experience.

Question 2

Which Film Does the Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom Take?

Accepted Answer

The Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom takes standard 35mm / 135 film.

It automatically reads DX-coded films from ISO 25 through ISO 3200, giving you a very broad choice of film speeds.

For general everyday photography, ISO 400 colour film is an excellent choice because it offers flexibility in sunshine, cloud, shade and changing conditions.

For bright outdoor photography, ISO 100 or ISO 200 film can provide finer grain and excellent image quality.

Higher-speed ISO 800 film can be useful for overcast conditions, indoor available-light photography and evening shooting.

The camera can also use black & white 35mm film, making it suitable for street, documentary and creative monochrome photography.

Popular choices include Kodak Gold 200, Kodak UltraMax 400, Kodak Portra 400, Fujifilm 400, Ilford HP5 Plus 400, Kentmere Pan 400 and Kodak TRI-X 400.

Question 3

Performance

Accepted Answer

The Canon 38–60mm f/4.5–6.7 zoom lens gives the Sure Shot 60 Zoom more framing flexibility than a fixed-lens compact camera while keeping the body relatively small.

At the wide end, 38mm offers a natural perspective for travel, street photography, groups and landscapes. At 60mm, the narrower field of view is useful for portraits and closer compositions.

The five-point Ai-AF system focuses from approximately 0.6 metres to infinity, making the camera suitable for most normal everyday subjects.

In good daylight, the automatic exposure system provides fast and uncomplicated shooting. When light levels drop, the camera can automatically activate its built-in flash. With the flash switched off, the programmed shutter can use longer exposures, so steady camera handling becomes important.

The direct zoom viewfinder changes with the lens setting, helping you frame accurately as you zoom.

Question 4

Shooting Tips

Accepted Answer

Start with ISO 400 film. It provides excellent flexibility for general everyday shooting.

Use DX-coded film. The camera automatically reads supported film speeds from ISO 25 to ISO 3200.

Use 38mm for groups and landscapes. The wider setting helps fit more of the scene into the photograph.

Zoom towards 60mm for portraits. The longer focal length gives tighter framing and can reduce distracting background elements.

Keep subjects at least around 0.6 metres away. The autofocus system is not designed for extreme close-up photography.

Use the built-in flash indoors. Indoor light can be much weaker than it appears to your eyes.

Keep flash subjects reasonably close. Small built-in flashes work best with nearby people and objects.

Use red-eye reduction for portraits. This can help reduce red-eye when photographing people with flash.

Hold the camera steady when flash is switched off. In low light, the shutter can remain open for considerably longer.

Use slow-sync creatively. It can retain more background atmosphere in low-light photographs while still using flash on the main subject.

Let the camera handle film transport. Loading, advance and rewind are motorised automatically.

Wait for rewind to finish before opening the camera. Opening the back too early can expose the film.

Carry a spare CR123A battery. Autofocus, zoom, flash and motorised film transport all depend on battery power.

Keep the lens clean. Fingerprints and dust can reduce contrast and image clarity.
