Question 1

Why Choose the Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom?

Accepted Answer

Choose the Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom if you want a straightforward 35mm film camera with more framing flexibility than a fixed-lens point-and-shoot.

The 35–70mm zoom lens covers two particularly useful perspectives. At 35mm, it is ideal for street scenes, holidays, groups, architecture and landscapes. Zooming towards 70mm provides tighter framing for portraits and more distant subjects.

Its 3-point Smart Autofocus system automatically evaluates different areas of the frame, helping keep subjects in focus without requiring manual adjustment.

The camera also handles exposure, film advance and rewind automatically, making it especially suitable for beginners or anyone who wants to enjoy film photography without learning manual camera controls.

The compact body and retracting lens also make the Sure Shot 70 Zoom convenient to carry on holidays and everyday outings.

Question 2

Which Film Does the Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom Take?

Accepted Answer

The Canon Sure Shot 70 Zoom takes standard 35mm / 135 film.

It automatically reads DX-coded film from ISO 25 to ISO 3200, allowing you to use a wide variety of colour and black & white films.

For general everyday photography, ISO 400 film is an excellent all-round choice. It provides useful flexibility across sunshine, cloudy weather and shade.

For bright outdoor conditions, ISO 100 or ISO 200 film can provide excellent results with finer grain.

Higher-speed films such as ISO 800 can be useful in dull weather and lower-light environments.

Suitable colour films include Kodak Gold 200, Kodak ColorPlus 200, Kodak UltraMax 400, Kodak Portra 400 and Fujifilm 400.

For black & white photography, popular options include Ilford HP5 Plus 400, Kentmere Pan 400 and Kodak TRI-X 400.

For the most predictable automatic exposure, use DX-coded 35mm film within the camera's supported ISO range.

Question 3

Performance

Accepted Answer

The Canon 35–70mm f/4.2–7.8 zoom lens gives the Sure Shot 70 Zoom useful flexibility while keeping the camera compact.

At 35mm, the lens provides a moderately wide field of view that works particularly well for travel, street photography, groups and landscapes.

At 70mm, the narrower perspective is more suitable for portraits, details and subjects that are slightly farther away.

The 3-point Smart Autofocus system focuses from approximately 0.6 metres to infinity, covering most everyday photographic situations.

In normal daylight, programmed exposure provides quick and uncomplicated shooting. When light levels fall, the camera can automatically activate its built-in flash.

With flash switched off or when using slow synchronisation, longer shutter speeds are available, so keeping the camera steady becomes increasingly important.

Question 4

Shooting Tips

Accepted Answer

Start with ISO 400 film. It offers an excellent balance between image quality and flexibility for everyday photography.

Use DX-coded film. The camera automatically detects supported film speeds from ISO 25 to ISO 3200.

Use 35mm for street scenes and groups. The wide end captures more of your surroundings.

Zoom towards 70mm for portraits. The longer setting provides tighter framing and helps reduce distracting background elements.

Keep subjects at least around 0.6 metres away. The autofocus system is not intended for extreme close-up photography.

Use the built-in flash indoors. Indoor environments are often darker than they appear to the human eye.

Use red-eye reduction for portraits. This can help reduce red-eye when photographing people with flash.

Keep flash subjects reasonably close. The built-in flash is designed primarily for nearby people and objects.

Hold the camera steadily with flash switched off. In lower light, the camera can select much slower shutter speeds.

Try slow synchronisation at night. This can retain more ambient background light while the flash illuminates your main subject.

Let the camera handle film transport. Loading, advance and rewind are all motorised.

Wait for rewind to finish before opening the camera. Opening the back prematurely can expose the film.

Carry a spare CR123A battery. Autofocus, zoom, flash and motorised film transport all depend on battery power.

Keep the lens clean. Fingerprints and dust can reduce image clarity and contrast.

Close the sliding lens cover when carrying the camera. This protects the lens and switches the camera off.
