CineStill BwXX 35mm Black & White Film
CineStill BwXX is a classic panchromatic black & white negative film based on a traditional motion-picture emulsion, giving photographs a distinctive cinematic character with rich blacks, strong tonal separation and excellent sharpness.
Rated at approximately ISO 250 in daylight and ISO 200 under tungsten lighting, BwXX offers a useful balance between speed, detail and grain. It works particularly well for street photography, portraits, documentary work, architecture and creative projects where strong monochrome tones are important.
Its traditional black & white rendering produces crisp detail with a visible but attractive grain structure, making it an excellent choice for photographers who want something different from modern ultra-fine-grain films.
CineStill BwXX is processed using conventional black & white chemistry, with development times depending on the developer used.

Questions about this product
Why Choose CineStill BwXX?
Choose CineStill BwXX if you want black & white photographs with a distinctive cinematic appearance rather than an ultra-clean modern look. Its strong contrast, deep blacks and excellent sharpness make it particularly effective for subjects with interesting light, shadows and texture. The moderate film speed also makes it versatile enough for outdoor daylight photography while remaining usable in brighter indoor situations. BwXX is especially appealing to photographers who enjoy the classic appearance of older documentary, cinema and street photography. It has enough grain to give images character without overwhelming fine detail. It is also an excellent film for photographers who enjoy developing black & white film themselves, as the final look can be influenced by the choice of developer, dilution and development technique.

Shooting Tips for CineStill BwXX
Start around ISO 250 in daylight. This is a good general starting point when shooting outdoors with a light meter. Use around ISO 200 under tungsten light. The film’s effective sensitivity is slightly lower under traditional tungsten illumination. Meter carefully for important shadow detail. Giving your shadows enough exposure will help retain useful tonal information in the negative. Look for strong light and shadow. BwXX performs particularly well in scenes with interesting contrast, making it excellent for street and architectural photography. Try it for portraits in window light. Soft directional daylight can produce beautiful skin tones and strong monochrome separation. Use a yellow or orange filter creatively. With black & white photography, coloured filters can increase separation between skies, clouds and other tones. Remember that filters reduce exposure and require compensation. Experiment with development. Different black & white developers can change grain, sharpness and contrast, allowing you to tailor the look to your preference. Avoid treating it as C-41 film. CineStill BwXX requires traditional black & white development rather than standard colour negative processing. Scan at high resolution. Good-quality scanning can reveal the film’s strong detail, natural grain and distinctive tonal character.
