Ilford FP4 Plus 125 35mm Black & White Film
Ilford FP4 Plus 125 is a classic medium-speed panchromatic black & white negative film known for its very fine grain, excellent sharpness and wide tonal range. Rated at ISO 125, it is particularly well suited to photography in good daylight or controlled lighting where image quality and detail are more important than maximum film speed.
FP4 Plus produces smooth greyscale transitions, strong shadow and highlight detail, and a refined traditional black & white look. It is an excellent choice for portraits, landscapes, architecture, studio photography and fine-art work, especially when you plan to make larger prints or high-resolution scans.
The film is processed using conventional black & white chemistry, giving photographers plenty of flexibility to influence contrast, grain and tonal character through their choice of developer and development method.

Questions about this product
Why Choose Ilford FP4 Plus 125?
Choose Ilford FP4 Plus 125 when you want maximum image quality from a traditional black & white film and have enough light to work comfortably at a medium film speed. Compared with faster films such as HP5 Plus 400, FP4 Plus produces finer grain and a cleaner, more detailed image, making it especially attractive for landscapes, portraits, architecture and studio work. Its tonal range is one of its strongest qualities. FP4 Plus handles subtle changes between highlights, mid-tones and shadows beautifully, which makes it particularly suitable for photographs where texture and tonal separation are important. It is also a very dependable film for photographers who enjoy darkroom printing or high-resolution scanning, as the combination of fine grain and strong sharpness gives you plenty of usable detail.

Studio Photography: ISO 125 works very well with controlled lighting and gives clean, detailed negatives. Fine Art Photography: Its refined tonal character makes it ideal for carefully composed monochrome projects. Still Life Photography: Fine detail and smooth greyscale rendering suit product, object and creative still-life work. Travel Photography: A strong choice for bright daytime shooting when you want high image quality rather than maximum speed. High-Resolution Scanning & Printing: Fine grain makes FP4 Plus particularly suitable for larger prints and detailed digital scans.
Shooting Tips for Ilford FP4 Plus 125
Start at ISO 125. Box speed is the best starting point for dependable exposure and balanced tonal reproduction. Use it in good light. FP4 Plus performs particularly well in daylight, studio lighting and other situations where you have enough exposure to avoid very slow shutter speeds. Protect shadow detail. Accurate exposure helps maintain rich information in darker areas while preserving smooth highlights. Use a tripod when necessary. Because it is slower than ISO 400 film, overcast conditions, interiors or smaller apertures may require slower shutter speeds. Try it for portraits with window light. Soft natural light works beautifully with the film’s smooth tonal transitions. Use smaller apertures for landscapes and architecture. ISO 125 is well suited to careful tripod-based shooting at f/8, f/11 or smaller when maximum depth of field is needed. Experiment with filters. Yellow, orange or red filters can increase tonal separation in skies and landscapes. Remember to compensate for the light lost through the filter. Scan at high resolution. The fine grain and strong detail make FP4 Plus especially rewarding when scanned carefully. FP4 Plus is a traditional black & white film and requires conventional black & white development.
