Questions about this product
Why Choose Kentmere Pan 400?
Choose Kentmere Pan 400 when you want an affordable, flexible black & white film that works well in a variety of everyday situations. Compared with slower ISO 100 films, Kentmere Pan 400 gives you more freedom to use faster shutter speeds in weaker light, making it a better choice for street photography, moving subjects and cloudy conditions. It also offers a classic black & white character, with enough grain to give photographs a traditional film look without overwhelming detail. Its forgiving exposure latitude makes it easy to use, which is especially helpful for photographers learning film photography or working with older cameras and basic light meters. For regular shooters, Kentmere Pan 400 provides a strong balance between price, versatility and image quality.
Shooting Tips for Kentmere Pan 400
Start at ISO 400. Box speed is the best starting point for balanced contrast, grain and shadow detail. Use it when the light is unpredictable. ISO 400 is versatile enough for sunshine, cloud and shade without changing film. Avoid heavy underexposure. Giving the film enough light helps preserve shadow detail and produces easier-to-scan or print negatives. Use faster shutter speeds for moving subjects. Compared with ISO 100 film, the extra speed is useful for street photography and candid portraits. Try it in available light. Kentmere Pan 400 can work well indoors near windows or in brighter interiors, especially with a reasonably fast lens. Experiment with push processing. Kentmere Pan 400 can be pushed when you need extra speed, but expect more contrast and grain. Tell your lab if you push it. If you expose the film above ISO 400, let the lab know so development can be adjusted. Use coloured filters creatively. Yellow, orange or red filters can darken blue skies and increase tonal separation. Remember to compensate for the light lost through the filter. Scan at a good resolution. Its traditional grain and solid detail can look especially attractive in high-quality digital scans. Kentmere Pan 400 requires conventional black & white development.
